- General
- “Going to a foreign country with a really different culture to your own really opens your eyes to the world. You become more open minded and you learn more about yourself. When in a foreign country you are faced with new situations nearly every day and it really tests you in your strength of character to overcome new challenges. Having the support of staff at Projects Abroad made me feel safe in a new country so I could face these new situations.“
Anne Robinson - “I had such a fantastic time in India – I completely fell in love with the country and the genuine and generous south Indian people. The people in the office were so helpful and approachable, especially Pabbu and Pondi.”
Katherine Anderson - “I loved it and I would love to go back sometime and its inspired me to learn more about Indian culture.”
Faye Golding - “I enjoyed everything! The people, the music, dance and the project! It is certainly an experience within my life that I will never forget! “
Christopher Anderson - Care
- “The little moments spent at Ashram, all combined to make a memorable placement. Having a class of 3-4 year olds drag you to a lesson by your hand, grins all over their cheeky faces, a girl rushing over to see you after a weekend away, obviously so pleased to see you again; and sharing stories and jokes with them on a daily basis.”
Holly Knight - “The most wonderful thing about my placement was the chance to see the development and progress made by the physically disabled children at the hospital. Just by holding them and talking to them, the enjoyment was so clear in their faces.”
Amy Byatt - Journalism
- “The most memorable moment of my trip was seeing wild elephants during our trek in the Peneyor Tiger Reserve. It was fantastic to get such a close-up view of magnificent creatures in their own natural environment.”
Toby Griffiths - Medicine & Healthcare
- Medicine
- “As I’m studying medicine next year, travelling to India was the perfect way to gain more work experience as it was very different to anything I’d experienced in the UK”
Charlotte Reynolds - “All of the staff at the placements I volunteered at were welcoming and my observations at the hospital were thoroughly interesting.”
Lydia O’Donoghue - “Watching births and interesting operations was really good, but it was the people that I was with that made it really interesting.”
Joanne Adams - Teaching
- “The experience has given me a new outlook on other cultures and the challenge of teaching has really increased my confidence and adaptability.”
Ben Thurman - “Teaching 50 children in a small class is something that I’ll never forget. They repeat everything you say even “Ummm” or “Uhhh”! They were so interested in pictures of England and it was amazing to see such passion and eagerness to learn.”
Saagar Patel - “I found my time teaching English to be the most challenging, but ultimately rewarding experience of my life. Before I left I had many doubts about my ability to teach, but as I am sure that hundreds of volunteers before me found, somehow I managed it! I formed incredibly close bonds with the children (I taught 4-16 year olds) and they had a huge impact on me. They were the kindest, friendliest and most generous people that I have ever met. They were so eager to learn and teaching them was an absolute pleasure.”
Sarah Christie - Veterinary Medicine & Animal Care
- “It was a totally different experience from anything I’d get at home. I was lucky to get some hands-on experience and saw diseases that we vaccinate against in the UK, but never come across, even one case of rabies. ”
Mary-Rose Best - 2 Week Specials
- “The Two Week Special was everything that I had hoped for and more!”
Claire Gillings - “I would like to study medicine and the Two Week Special has given me experience that I would not have got in the UK.”
Sara Tidey - “The most memorable moment of my trip was seeing wild elephants during our trek in the Peneyor Tiger Reserve. It was fantastic to get such a close-up view of magnificent creatures in their own natural environment.”
