Volunteering Projects and Internships in Africa - Mozambique

Mozambique

Mozambique is Africa’s up-and-coming must visit destination and spending some time here on a volunteer project or work experience placement will let you experience all aspects of this enticing country. Our voluntary projects in Mozambique are available for anyone interested in volunteering in the developing world, including those on a gap year, career break or as summer work experience while studying.

Projects Abroad offers Teaching, Care and Conservation projects in Mozambique, based in and around the town of Vilanculos on the southern coast. Friendly LocalsVilanculos is one of Mozambique’s most visited towns due to its close proximity to the dazzling waters of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Tourism now plays a significant role in the town’s economy, making it increasingly important for the local people to speak English. The need for conservation work in the area is also growing as more development of the coastline takes place.

All Projects Abroad volunteers in Mozambique live together in a shared house.

Volunteering on a Placement Overseas in Mozambique

Fisherman Mozambique is a vibrant country on the southeast coast of Africa. Having emerged from two decades of war its people are friendly, welcoming and upbeat about the future. With over 2500km of coastline, Mozambique’s white-sand beaches and turquoise seas teaming with wildlife are a big attraction.

Mozambique became independent from Portugal in 1975, but its first 25 years of independence were far from easy with virtually no infrastructure, widespread poverty and years of guerrilla warfare. The past ten years have seen great improvements, with democratic elections and the development of new roads and a solid tourist infrastructure.

However, Mozambique still has a long way to go, and currently comes 172nd out of 182 countries in the United Nations Human Development Index, which takes into account education, economy and life expectancy.
