1 Month Structured Voluntary Work-Experience Placements for 16-19 year-olds

If you're in the 16 to 19 age group and have a month free to volunteer over the summer holidays, why not join us on a 1 Month programme designed for you? Aimed to give you valuable work experience and contribute to a local community over a 1 month period, these placements are structured to allow you to make the most of a relatively short time overseas.

You will be with a small group of fellow-students. The programmes include a mixture of fun and practical work with children, painting and building work at the placements, evening activities and three weekend excursions. This is a perfect way to have some fun, explore a new country and contribute massively to your CV or UCAS form!

In summer 2012 we have the choice of two 1 Month Specials programmes:

    Care & Community in Ghana

    Sunday July 1st – Saturday July 28th 2012

    Voluntary Work Experience

Our 1 Month Care & Community project in Ghana will give you the chance to experience two of our most popular regions in Ghana; Cape Coast and the Akuapem Hills. Staying for a month in this fascinating country will allow you to make a significant difference in other people's lives as well as your own. You will learn about another culture as you explore and get to know two different areas of Ghana. In both locations, you will be hosted by a local family, which allows you to become fully immersed in the Ghanaian way of life.

During your time in Cape Coast you will work in an orphanage or a local school, renovating and decorating the building in the mornings and playing with and caring for the children in the afternoons. By putting in a new floor or painting a mural on a neglected wall, you will be making a valuable and lasting contribution to the placement.

During your stay in the semi-rural Akuapem Hills you will become part of a small friendly community. In the mornings you will be working on a community project, helping to paint and renovate a local school. In the afternoons you will work at one of the care projects, playing games and arranging activities for the children.

At the weekends you’ll visit one of Ghana's stunning palm fringed beaches and the Kakum Rainforest Reserve near Cape Coast where you can hike through the jungle and experience the canopy walkway high in the trees. You will also have the opportunity to visit Cape Coast's slave fort.

    Care & Community in India

    Sunday July 29th – Saturday August 25th 2012

    Month Voluntary Placements

Taking part in our 1 Month Care & Community project in India is a great way to experience firsthand this fascinating country and make a significant difference in other people's lives as well as your own.

The 1 Month Special project is based in the south of India, in Madurai, also known as the Temple City, due to its gigantic Meenakshi temple complex.

During your month-long stay here, you will work either in a local orphanage or school, painting or doing building work in the mornings and getting the children involved in fun, educational activities and games in the afternoons. Your work will make a valuable and lasting contribution to both the placement and the children who attend it.

You will stay in hostel accommodation with other volunteers close to the area where you are working. Evenings are set aside for cultural or leisure activities organised by our local staff.

At the weekends we’ll arrange a variety of trips that will allow you to experience the beauty and culture of India, including visits to temples and some of the area’s natural wonders.
