Pursue your passion for the great outdoors and immerse yourself in a new culture with our Conservation & Community in Ecuador Grown-up Special. During your stay on the beautiful Galapagos Islands you will split your time between a Community placement and Conservation project.
The Galapagos Islands are one of the most species-rich regions on earth, and due to their isolation they are home to many unique species of flora and fauna. You will work closely with the Galapagos National Park during your conservation work, assisting on various ongoing projects.
The aim is to aid in the removal of alien species, reforest areas with indigenous plants, monitor the populations of unique fauna, and assist with beach clean-ups. Prevention is also key to conserving the environment so you may help prepare awareness workshops to educate the local community on environmental issues.
Your main role during the Community placement in Ecuador will be to take part in basic renovation activities in the local community. These activities include renovating and painting classrooms, painting murals and playground maintenance.
You will have plenty of free time to spend with the other volunteers. To ensure you make the most of your stay, a few exciting activities have been planned for you, including a trip to one or two of the neighbouring islands and a tour of the various sites in the Galapagos. Living on the island also provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you're interested in improving or picking up some language skills.
