Learn Malagasy in Madagascar
Join one of our Language Courses during your stay in Madagascar to fully immerse yourself in this fascinating African culture. Malagasy is a unique language in Africa, with its origins in Southeast Asia, and is spoken by over 17 million people in Madagascar. Malagasy and French are the country’s official languages, though Malagasy is the one most widely spoken across the island.
You will learn Malagasy with a local tutor who will introduce you to the basics of the language. You and your tutor will decide on the times and frequency of your classes, and classes will focus on boosting your listening, reading and speaking skills.
There are two options when it comes to learning Malagasy in Madagascar. You can choose to take part in an intensive standalone Language Course, where you will receive around 15 hours of tuition per week.
After completing your Malagasy Language Course, you can also choose to spend time working on one of our Madagascar volunteer projects, such as Teaching or Care, and put your newly acquired language skills to use in a practical working environment. This is especially useful, since Madagascan children are more likely to speak Malagasy than French.
Alternatively, you can choose to sign up for our 5-hour, 14-hour, or 30-hour Language Course add-ons, which run alongside your main volunteer project. These prices are in addition to your main project price. Please take a look at our Madagascar language prices for more information.
