Volunteer Teaching in Argentina is an ideal way to get involved and improve the English language skills of local children. You can gain invaluable work experience teaching overseas and no TEFL or previous experience is needed. Whether you want to volunteer during your gap year, career break or during an extended holiday, we will find a Teaching placement that suits your requirements.
Your role as an English teacher in Argentina
As the international language of business and commerce English is of vital importance, and secondary schools in Argentina are keen for pupils to learn. Many of the schools in Argentina have local staff who are good at making sure that the children write and read well.
However, the teachers don't always have the time to help students develop their conversational abilities, or lack the confidence of a native speaker. As a volunteer, you will help to bridge this gap, encouraging children to practise and working with them to improve their spoken English and listening skills.
Most of our Teaching placements (both public and private) are located in Córdoba, which is the second largest city in Argentina after Buenos Aires. Volunteers can also work at schools, universities and language institutes situated in surrounding areas, like Río Ceballos and La Calera. You may find yourself assisting local teachers, helping to organise fun educational activities, or taking a class of your own.
Teaching other languages
It is also possible to teach French, German and Italian classes in Argentina. Please let us know if you're interested in this option when you apply.
Volunteering on a Teaching Project in Argentina
We do recommend that all Teaching volunteers in Argentina speak some Spanish. Volunteers who do not speak Spanish will work in private schools or in informal teaching settings. Those with some Spanish skills will work in public schools.
One of the reasons you don't need any previous teaching experience or qualifications is that we will help you prepare and structure lessons. Our Teaching project coordinators in Argentina organise regular workshops for our volunteers. These workshops will provide you with tools and tips on lesson planning and ideas for different classroom activities. They are also an opportunity for you to get help with any issues you might have, and receive or give feedback.
The schools in Argentina have their main holidays from the start of December to the end of February, with a shorter holiday in July. During these times volunteers can join our summer school programme.
Throughout your placement, you will be located near other volunteers and will live with a local host family. This is a brilliant way to become a part of the local community and will give you a real insight into Argentinean life.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Argentina Teaching Management Plan.
