Volunteering for Adults - in Developing Countries Overseas
Perhaps because of the explosion in numbers of students taking gap-years in the last decade or so, volunteering abroad is often viewed as the preserve of the younger generation. But with Projects Abroad this could not be further from the truth – in fact we have always had a healthy spread of ages on our projects, and long may it remain so. For, while younger volunteers bring energy and enthusiasm, our “older” volunteers are often equally as capable in these departments, but also bring knowledge and experience, which make them incredibly popular with our partner organisations – the schools, and care centres where our volunteers are placed.
Whether you are a graduate looking to gain some experience before getting into the job market, a career-breaker looking for a change in direction, or a retired person with a sense of adventure; whether you have recently received a healthy redundancy package or are still in employment, but have simply stored up a good amount of annual leave and want to use it to do something a little bit different; we have a project to suit you.
Volunteering Abroad as an “Older” Volunteer
Projects Abroad works in 30 developing world destinations across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and the South Pacific. We run a variety of projects in each, with Teaching and Care placements in every destination and Medicine & Healthcare, Conservation & Environment, Journalism, Law & Human Rights, Business, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Care and Language Projects in various combinations. We also offer unique one-off Community placements such as our Inca Project in Peru, our Nomad Project in Mongolia and our Disaster Management Project in Jamaica.
We have no set start dates – these are chosen by you, our volunteers – and we also offer a variety of project lengths, to enable you to fit a placement into your busy schedule. Our prices include your accommodation, meals, insurance and full support from our directly-employed local staff teams, who operate in each of our destinations.
If you would like to find out more about our projects and destinations then you can click on the relevant section on the top menu-bar. If you would like to speak with one of our advisors, then you can call 021 671 7008. We are always happy to discuss your volunteering requirements and can easily provide you with information, such as a general idea of the ages of our volunteer groups for the period of time that you are thinking about volunteering (a particularly popular request from our “older” volunteers!).
