Staff that Go the Extra Mile

At Projects Abroad, we care deeply about the welfare of our volunteers. That’s why our staff are fully prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Even before you arrive, we can help out in various ways. We can arrange for you to chat with former volunteers, if you’d like to ask them questions and find out more about their experiences. You can even meet up with our UK staff in person!

If you’re using your time abroad for research or a dissertation, we can help you design your plan of study, since many of us have academic backgrounds. If you had plans to go abroad by other means that fell through at the last minute, we’ll pull some strings to try get you abroad on one of our programmes as soon as possible. And if your visa gets denied, we’ll even call the embassy to lobby on your behalf.

Our Volunteer Advisors remain in regular contact with our volunteers, from application until the point of departure, where our multilingual destination staff take over. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll receive an induction and orientation so that you become quickly familiar with your new home town.

If you’re uncomfortable commuting to your volunteer placement, we’ll go with you until you feel more confident. If you’re feeling homesick or having trouble coping with culture shock, we’ll lend an understanding ear and do what we can to make you feel more at ease. If you get sick or injured while abroad, we’ll take you to the hospital and stay with you until you’re recovered. In essence, we provide in-country support 24/7 to assist you with any issue that may arise.

We want our volunteers to have the best experience possible. That means we’ll help out however we can to ensure your time abroad is worthwhile, productive and enjoyable.

For over 20 years Projects Abroad have been experts in volunteering abroad, work experience and gap year placements.
